Higher
Are we any closer to the truth
I haven't seen any poetry in the streets
Just the blood of the youth
Boy, it's the land of the free
Until you're 18 and shipped off to foreign lands
Forced to fight for your country, oh
Oh, we wanted to believe in
Something bigger than ourselves
Swore to make it all great again
See how the dream melts
And nothing really seems that great to me
It kinda seems like we're all on fire
And pitiful rivers won't douse the flames
Oh, they just keep rising higher
A history book splattered
With blood on every page
So much for freedom
When your interests have changed
This land is not your land, no
This land is mine
Who cares about your culture
Assimilate or die
And so I struggle to believe in
Something bigger than myself
Were we great to begin with
Maybe we deserve to melt
And nothing really seems that great to me
It kinda seems like we're all on fire
And pitiful rivers won't douse the flames
Oh, they just keep rising higher
And tell me who raised the generation
You rant and rave about today
You set the world on fire
And we were shaped by the flames
And, oh, they just keep rising higher
Poor men, rich men, take 'em as they come
They all want to die when the day is done
Poor boy, rich girl, governor's son
Have gotten too used to feeling numb
Poor men, rich men, take 'em as they come
They all want to die when the day is done
Poor boy, rich girl, governor's son
Have gotten too used to feeling numb
Poor men, rich men, take 'em as they come
They all want to die when the day is done
Poor boy, rich girl, governor's son
Have gotten too used to feeling numb
Poor men, rich men, take 'em as they come
They all want to die when the day is done
Poor boy, rich girl, governor's son
Have gotten too used to feeling numb
And nothing really seems that great to me
It kinda seems like we're still on fire
And pitiful rivers won't douse the flames
Oh, they just keep rising
They just keep rising
They just keep rising higher
I haven't seen any poetry in the streets
Just the blood of the youth
Boy, it's the land of the free
