To Love At All

Not long ago I drove past the paths
I traced as a boy
I'd tear through the trees
Free as I could be
Wild as the woods
Like I opened a door to a place
Where I am who I am
And the trees have gone now
With the years
I'm not the same either

I watched as my little girl
Ran up and asked a child to play
Though it broke me in two seeing her turned away
She bravely reached out again and again
Til she found a friend
She's showing me now what I knew
But buried within

To love at all is to take a chance
Let yourself live wide open
Bare your heart within your hands
Even though it may be broken
Lay your armor aside
And give of your life
For in losing it
Then you will find it
When you love at all

I've discovered a walk with my son
Is a hunt for a treasure
Every rock every leaf
Whether flower or weed
He's lavishly lining my pockets
With riches untold if I have eyes to see
As he gives what he has
And who he is
He gives the real gift to me

To love at all is to take a chance
Let yourself live wide open
Bare your heart within your hands
Even though it may be broken
Lay your armor aside
And give of your life
For in losing it
Then you will find it
When you love at all

There's a price to be paid staying safe
Never letting ourselves be seen
I wanna dare to lean in to the risk
To live and love abundantly

But to love at all is to take a chance
Let yourself live wide open
Bare your heart within your hands
Even though it may be broken
Lay your armor aside
And give of your life
For in losing it
Then you will find it
When you love at all
To love at all
