Not long ago I drove past the paths
I traced as a boy
I'd tear through the trees
Free as I could be
Wild as the woods
Like I opened a door to a place
Where I am who I am
And the trees have gone now
With the years
I'm not the same either

I watched as my little girl
Ran up and asked a child to play
Though it broke me in two seeing her turned away
She bravely reached out again and again
Til she found a friend
She's showing me now what I knew
But buried within

To love at all is to take a chance

Even though it may be broken
Lay your armor aside

I've discovered a walk with my son
Is a hunt for a treasure
Every rock every leaf
Whether flower or weed
He's lavishly lining my pockets
With riches untold if I have eyes to see
As he gives what he has
And who he is
He gives the real gift to me
