Spider On My Hand

Waiting backstage with a spider on my hand
Found it last year after high school band
It's got orange-striped knees, shiny black fur
A stutter in its step as it starts to stir
And a face that's turning my fingers to sand

Sitting on stage with a spider by my neck
I feel it crawling higher throughout the sound check
Through muddled cues, blurred-out scripts
Black-tipped legs tickling my lips
And I swear I feel 'em tapping, telling me to hit the deck

I came here to be a performer
Wanted to sing all night
But thanks to this stupid spider
I'll never be in the light
Right

Standing on stage with a spider on my face
And nothing left to feel but this eight-armed embrace
I already knew this was all a lost cause
I'm so focused on this spider, I can't hear the applause
And right now, I just wish all these eyes would give me space

I came here to be a performer
And I really thought that I'd shine bright
But thanks to this stupid spider
I'll never be in the light
Right
