(Intro) My Dad and Follies [Live]
I mentioned earlier that the first Broadway show I ever saw was Company
Actually, my parents saw it first, and they loved it
So, naturally, they would love the next Sondheim show they saw
Which was Follies
And they walked out
I should tell you that a few years later
When I was in high school, they got divorced
And it wasn't until I saw Follies myself
And I discovered what it was about, that I went
Ah, that's why they left
Perhaps it hit a little too close to home for them
There's a song in Follies, sung by the character Ben
That makes me think of my dad
And I've often wondered what he was thinking when he heard this
Actually, my parents saw it first, and they loved it
So, naturally, they would love the next Sondheim show they saw
Which was Follies
And they walked out
I should tell you that a few years later
When I was in high school, they got divorced
And it wasn't until I saw Follies myself
And I discovered what it was about, that I went
Ah, that's why they left
Perhaps it hit a little too close to home for them
There's a song in Follies, sung by the character Ben
That makes me think of my dad
And I've often wondered what he was thinking when he heard this
