When We Were Drifting

I thought we had a plan
When we set out on the road
You thought I had the map
But I didn't know which way to go
You didn't mind
And I didn't care where we wound up
Or what we found

Over the river
And into the woods
To and fro and hither
And it felt good
Turn off the clock
With the radio low and unfamiliar
Looking around

If there was an exit than I must've missed it
Got into some things we weren't expecting to find
We've always done better when we were drifting

Everyone said not to wander about
We were warned that some folks who went in
Never came back out
When we departed we left with a shout
Now it's quiet as we move about

There was something peaceful
About being lost
There wasn't a victim
And there wasn't a cost
There was only you and me
And the feeling we had tossed our cares away
At least for a day and a night
