Left Undone

The smell of cigarettes and drying oil paint
Unfinished sketch of a lady in blue
The careful brushstrokes that makes the painting move
A yellow dance with a melancholy hue

But the paintings left undone
The artists up and run
Crying with her bags out I the loan
She was gone

She heard of mountains that proudly make their stand
She heard of deserts filled with sand
She had to see them they called her by her name
This small New England town
Couldn't contain her flame

Has she found the place to let her soul break loose
To run with the wild wolves and dance with the goose
May the mountain caress her as she sleeps
Cuz she's so far away and in too deep
The blue wonder in her eye
The gentle soft curves of her thigh

A handsome fellow with a poet on his lips
He touched her heart he took her by the hips
Showed her the wonders of her psychedelic mind
Deep underground away from space and time

And the wonders that she found
In that silky underground
Grabbed her and pulled her deeper still, and made their kill

Wild paintings on the wall
Naked dances in the hall
The spiraling down of freedom and of bliss
A sleeping figure, the darkness in a kiss

Where are the mountains that called her in her sleep
Did she forget them when she went in too deep
From herself, she could not run
She found herself left undone
Just like a painting that would never sees the light
The handsome fellow pulled her deep into the night
