Destiny Calls

When I was a child
My whole life was laid out in front of me
Carved deep into stone, presented on pages and tapestry
They said the world was in my hands,
The world they'd never let me see
No time for fun or fooling round
No space for slip-ups in the sea
For I was not a boy, but just a faulty tool
They bend me into shape to then discard when not of use
They say it's destiny
And I believe
But every day
I'm slowly learning

Everything I've ever been told
Starts to fold under pressure and scrutiny
No, I never asked many questions
Just went along with what I was supposed to be
Destiny calls
But it doesn't sound familiar anymore

Oh, what do you do
When the riptide sweeps you off of your feet
You've built your whole life on foundations of sand and deceit
A world of black and white fades away
And now it's all in shades of grey
My lifelong guidance gone, I start to stray
I give in to the current, find myself inside the fray

'Cause everything I've ever been told
Starts to fold under pressure and scrutiny
No, I never asked many questions
Just went along with what I was supposed to be
Destiny calls, it's fainter now
Sweeter and stranger, too, somehow
Yes, destiny calls
And it doesn't sound familiar anymore
