Unreliable Narrator

I built up a strawman and tore it apart, for practice
I have every point down to a minute exactness
Every word memorized and scripted
But you seem like you're conflicted
We have always had such a rapport
So what are we sitting here arguing for?

You can trust me if you want to
You have nobody else to turn to
In the wake of the... reliable narrator

There's an outbreak of being clever
Stringing all these words together
Do you hear footsteps? Is it just me?
Is that the silhouette of a knife you can see?

You can trust me if you want to
You have nobody else to turn to
In the wake of the... reliable narrator

(Isn't there something that you should be doing?
Don't you have a job at the gas lamp factory?
What do you mean? There's always been a gas lamp factory.)

Somebody put this poorly placed lighter
Next to the stove that somehow got turned on
Now we're being followed by investigators
Never say this world ain't full of alligators

You can trust me if you want to
You have nobody else to turn to
In the wake of the... reliable narrator

(Is that the sound of the gas-powered fireplace
That you mistakenly left on overnight?
No, it wasn't me. It must have been you.)

Oh, hey. There you are -
Listen, I thought you might like to know
I'm not sure if you've noticed
But there's a dead ant inside your computer monitor
Oh, you looked and it wasn't there?
What do you mean it was never there before I pointed it out?
It's been there for a *while* -
You never saw it?
