Casual Conversation

I walked into the room and sitting in the gloom
Was a face I'd seen before
I smiled at him, he winked at me
While my beer was being poured

The man with the crooked glasses
Told me he's got the most painful splinter
Sitting at the bar I said "I've seen ya play guitar"
He just grinned at put a cap on his finger

I'd seen this guy hanging around the same spots before
Playing some Dylan and some Cash
I didn't know his name
But I liked him just the same

I know casual conversation in a bar can be quite strange
But casual conversation or not
These folks will always give you a shot
To drink
And to express yourself

The old wolf in corner
He was still preaching about independence day
I heard him sing this song
Since the day I've come along
And I'll keep coming back for it

He asked me how I was and I said
"The world's treated me better before... But I really cannot complain"
But deep inside there were all these feelings
That couldn't even start to explain

You see my friends they all seem to be living in a different world
Than the one that I'm around
They're all in a rush and they all seem to have
Figured what it's all about

As for me, as you can see
I'm still running around playing troubadour
I guess I'll play this role
Till the day God takes my soul

And I know casual conversation with me can be quite strange
But casual conversation or not
Come 'round, I'll always give you a shot
To drink
And to express yourself
