What Makes A Hero
What makes a hero
An answer simple or complex
Do they have to wear a cape or is it regular clothes or action figure spandex
Do they have to save the world from hurt or is it save the children from a world trying to hurt them
What makes a hero, lets begin
When a child's young, an idol, a figure, something to fill a void, to fill their head
A daydream from reality, transport vehicle, trying to find their own sunset
Many times, super this or super that but rarely super Mom or super Dad
Aunts and Uncles, Grandma, Grandpa busting through their savings trying to keep their family fed
When the credits often given to the cartooned celebrity that's really non-existent
Now there's Mamacita trying to raise her five kids, brave enough to face the day, basking in the glory
She's a hot-mess, knowing all the kids are dressed, at the car, load them up, now shes off, red eye, one eye shut
Sun becomes the enemy, ferocious for stability, window open, music up
Driving with a coffee cup, last bit of caffeine, drinking down every drop
Doors are open just in time to hit the clock
But now she can't slow down, it's not she won't, it's she don't know how
Why can't she come home and kick back, just shutdown and relax, unwind with no doubt
House won't be foreclosed, fridge is where food goes, not filled with the cockroach
Man needs a real job, not dead-end for quick cash, handcuffs from drug ops
To wake up and feel, stability is real
Fear can't be an option when your raising your kids, you put your head down, you run like the wind
No roadblock to stop you, no dead end, you pick yourself up when the world tries to win
You're down in the trenches, 24/7, you're thirsting, you're hungry, just trying to survive
It's like you're literally dying, suicide from inside, can you feel it
Baby daddies now gone but the rent isn't paid, they left with a balance that she never made
Now the children have eaten but Mom ain't the same
See her putting on two layers so her secret is safe
Her body the vehicle, brain not engaged, sixty hours she works, the government takes
Food stamps are now gone but work ethic the same
Only chance for surviving, shows Mommy's rib-cage
What makes a hero an answer simple or complex
