When We Were Kings

Woman where have you been
I've searched my life just to see you again
And these lonely nights they play on stories of old
Brother remember when
We'd run these streets with the best of friends
Where the city lights they shined so bright like gold

We would drive all night until the morning sun
Each day would begin as if the best was yet to come
I miss those moments when my spirit felt so free
Those were the days when we were kings

Innocence is hard to find
I long for the days that were left behind
Where every laughing moment felt it would last
Those memories still live in my mind
I wish I could set this tape to rewind
And feel that sense of wonder again from the past

We would run like wild through the pouring rain
We swore to ourselves so sure of how we'd never change
We were so fearless as we'd chase down all our dreams
Well those were the days when we were kings

And if I try I'll find that place again someday
As long as I strive I know I'll surely find a way
I see more clearly all of life's most precious things
