The Note

I'm sorry for all the pain I caused you. Sorry for all the wrong I've done
I take the blame and consequences for wars I lost and battles won
I don't expect you to excuse me. I wasn't there for you, I know
But, love doesn't keep a running history of the injury and I wonder
has your conscience come for you? To collect the balance due?
I hope that one day you'll forgive me and look beyond the things I wrote
And that I'll come to be remembered for more than just this note

I've been alone in my asylum of regret, everyday that you've been gone
Do you know how hard it is just standing still while everything you had moves on?
I hope you end up where your heart wants you to be
I've got my thumb out in the air
But no one's coming by to pick me up and it's just my luck
And I wonder, where do I go from here? To disappear?
I hope that one day you'll forgive me and look beyond the things I wrote
And that I'll come to be remembered for more than just this note

You came so close to having it all, now you'll forever be denied
I was on the beach completing my castle when you called in the tide

So, let me take my pen to paper as I sign my name in red
And relive all your indiscretions, forever running through my head
I know I'll never get back what you gave away. I close this chapter in my book
I'll make you promise not to find me, when I know you won't even look
I hope that one day you'll forgive me and look beyond the things I wrote
And that I'll come to be remembered for more than just this note
More than just this note
