The Math

I depend too much on my wit
The only way I'll feel something is by overthinking it
My brain has become more like a curse
Than the blessing with which I'll accomplish my purpose
I try to understand what's going on
But my memories are always too far gone
Turns out the means to make sense of it all
Are the lyrics you'll read on a bathroom wall

It feels like all that seems so wrong
Would just make perfect sense in a song
So if a guitar comes into my path
I'll let the songs do the talking
I'll let your ears do the math

I'm too concerned with predicting our future
With fulfilling it with a grand gesture
But if I didn't worry about pushing things further
Maybe I'd just enjoy all the time we spend together
I wish I knew a simpler way
To share with you what I've been trying to say
But I got to the point when there's too much at stake
To get to the point that I'm trying to make

It feels like all that seems so wrong
Would just make perfect sense in a song
So if a guitar comes into my path
I'll let the songs do the talking
I'll let your ears do the math

You say a simple look into my eyes
Can differentiate the truth from the lies
If I don't find my words
If I'm at a loss
This could be how I'll get the message across
If your instinct is really that good
I might have a chance at being understood
But are we that attuned
Will you like what you see
Are you and I written on the same key

It feels like all that seems so wrong
Would just make perfect sense in a song
So if a guitar comes into my path
I'll let the songs do the talking
I'll let your ears do the math
