Words Like Thunder

A storm is rolling in
I'm hibernating in my den
Contemplating Now and Then and words like Thunder
Bolted under my feet
To the corner where my shadow meets myself,
Completes my thought like it was winter

If I can picture a moment or two ago
I photograph the sunlight refracting my lens
And if I can picture it at all all depends
Largely on whether or not it ever happened

I've seen them in the wind
Sliding by me now and then
And noted how many humans pretend never to notice
Never to know this
But far be it from me
To believe in anything other than me, myself, and my own mind
I'll take it as a sign

That I can picture a moment or two ago
I photograph the sunlight refracting my lens
And if I can picture it at all all depends
Largely upon the fact that it happens at all

Something that's happening now
Makes you giggle and grin
No wondering how now and then it begins to feel so real
And that's how I know
That the past will by no means outlast any present
Because the future is
Dan's idea of time as just a prolonged punchline
