Missed Roads

Do not despair for the path that you missed
You never once took it and you'll never again
They say those you do take are considered a gift
Because there's plenty of others who aren't here to take them

You could be tied up with time you have lost
And you may just give up and wait out the clock
The thing about life is it just keeps going on
And if you just waste it that comes at a cost

Do not despair those missed roads
They went by so quickly you hardly had known
The pain you avoided from not taking those roads
May have been worse than the pain you have chose

Those who we've lost are never quite gone
They guide us forever as we keep moving on
Yet their presence still haunts us at all the same times
And we sit up at night and wish life could rewind

So I pray you not despair for the paths you have missed
Nor linger on things in the past that exist
Our entire lives make up who we are
And we must decide on just which parts we want

Do not despair those missed roads
Eventually they'll split up and slowly erode
The pain you've avoided from not taking those roads
May be no worse than the pain you have chose

Do not despair those missed roads
They went by so quickly you hardly had known
But the pain you've avoided from not taking those roads
May not be worse than the pain you chose
