Alberta Sky

The Prairie sky stopped me today
The way it does and will again
A patchwork quilt of sweet pastels
My comforter a dear old friend

It wrapped me in familiar winds
I watched a Golden Eagle fly
A moment with my favourite friends
Where Rocky Mountains touch the sky

Combines in the farmlands
The cattle in the fields
Farmers markets shops and fairs
With swings and Ferris wheels
The glaciers feed rivers
And lakes that rest on high
Reflections in the water
Of the Big Alberta Sky

A sunny day and I can see
The bluest sky surrounding me
A winter wonderland delight
Where sunshine dances in the white

And as the seasons come and go
Whatever comes I'll always know
It's here my heart and spirit lie
Beneath the Big Alberta Sky

The rolling southern ranch lands
The country we call Peace
The badlands where the Dino's hide
The Prairies and the trees
And in the West the Chinook Wind
Her breathe so warm and dry
Her arch a regal crown
Across the Big Alberta Sky

The forests where wild things roam
This native land we all call home
Buried deep beneath the soil
Precious metal ore and oil
Rising from this fertile land
Foothills lift their verdant hands
To the Rocky Mountain High
And the Big Alberta Sky

The Rockies took my breath again
The way they do when I'm with them
And in the valleys far below
The mighty rivers start to flow

And there for all the world to see
A watercolour tapestry
The greatest gift to you and I
The beautiful Alberta Sky

I sat and watched the setting sun
Let day turn into night
I saw the Milky Way come on
Was awed by ancient light
Aurora borealis
Waves that seem to fly
Universal colours in
The Big Alberta Sky

A very special part of me
The air I breath the heart of me
The Big Alberta Sky
