Greta

Today i heard a young woman from a foreign land
Tell the powerful and the wealthy and the old ones
That she had a message for them and all of us
That message was "we will be watching you"

She stood before these leaders from the nations of the earth
And she told them "how dare ya" sell our future and our hope
For the promise of money and power and comfort
Ya she said they were a group of shameful petty hoarders

She said they were blind to the danger they'd created
That this young one and her friends would have to live with
She broke my heart with her sincerity and simplicity
There were no lies, no cheap attacks, no violence in her face

There was only the gentle heart and the purity of purpose
The truth lept from her face her lips and her heart
She puts us all to shame, all of us who sit and complain
There is only one small glimmer of good in this sordid mess

It is the hope that comes from hearing such a powerful cry
A cry from our children, from our world, from our planet
A cry for action to stop the destruction of life
From the heartless pursuit of profit and power

In people with no soul with no heart
They come again and again like thieves in the night
They steal all the progress that was died for
By those who came before us, who came before us

I hope she and the children will rise up and save us
From the ones who would tear, tear everything down
Just to have more than they could ever need
There is no end to this story it just goes on into tomorrow

It will need to be told again and again
To those who have forgotten what it means to live free
To the children who come after us
Ya to the children, to the children

You should act like your house is on fire
'Cause it is
