Chasing Aeroplanes

I left my bed sheets in Santa Monica
I left to catch the early morning train
They were given the family name Veronica
Decembers got me feeling lonelier
We used to see them around
No one ever dared to speak to them
Couldn't get any word out of their mouth

We are left chasing aeroplanes
We are left chasing aeroplanes
No use chasing aeroplanes
No use chasing aeroplanes

It was an awful but funny kind of funeral
More of laughing than of crying
The riches left were much-prized garden tools
And a bottle of rather old wine
The death came rather surprising
But all of our tears arrived on time
The last words weren't rather friendly
In the letter they wrote to their father's wife

We are left chasing aeroplanes
We are left chasing aeroplanes
No use chasing aeroplanes
There's no use chasing aeroplanes

They must have given their money to their charity
Yet they had no money to give
So the envelope must have been rather empty
A tribute to the nice life they would have lived
We always laughed about the future

We are left chasing aeroplanes
We are left chasing aeroplanes
No use chasing aeroplanes
No use chasing aeroplanes
