They Talk to Me

Well I've heard a lot of answers, one of them might be true
And everyone's got an opinion but no one's got a clue
The frustration of not knowing cuts like a knife
I've been trying to understand these signals all my life
But how could I, a simple child
Hope to find what the finest minds
Before me failed to find?
Nonetheless I try

Play them at the table while I eat
Play them in my headphones
In the back-seat of the car
Play them in my bedroom while I sleep
Play them in the background
while I practice my guitar

I want to listen, I want to understand
So far away, yet still we hear them
Those alien sounds, what is their meaning?
They're calling me, taunting me, daring me
To understand

The mind of a child is free and clear
Sometimes it takes a child's ears to hear
The mind of a child is unfettered and free
Sometimes it takes a child's eyes to see

At last! Success! One lucky guess!
And one by one the pieces all fall
Into place

I might be just a child but I'm the first on Earth to understand
Now as I listen, no more frustration
So alien, yet I translate them
They call to me, talk to me, speak to me
And at last I understand
They call to me, talk to me, speak to me
And at last I understand
