Reflection
As I stare at my reflection
I see deep scars from my past
I cannot understand
How things got out of hand so fast
Was it the beatings I took
Or the images of war
Why is it so vivid
When I buried it all before
Without the love of a mother
Abandoned by a father
I stayed out of sight, out of mind
To not be a bother
I tried to do right
I fought for God and Country
But now the lack of appreciation
Has turned me callous and sultry
I see deep scars from my past
I cannot understand
How things got out of hand so fast
Was it the beatings I took
Or the images of war
Why is it so vivid
When I buried it all before
Without the love of a mother
Abandoned by a father
I stayed out of sight, out of mind
To not be a bother
I tried to do right
I fought for God and Country
But now the lack of appreciation
Has turned me callous and sultry
