House On Fire

Like painting a house on fire
Each day I get up and wonder why
I can't keep going on this way
As my neighbors go on about their days

Screaming won't help me as the flames grow higher
Rich men in suits warm their feet at the pyre
They're drinking fine whiskey and drinking fine wine
Throwing matches at my neighbor's place and sleeping just fine

We'll I'm done painting this house on fire
Let it burn to the ground, I'm just too tired
Going to steal the rich man's whiskey and wine
Find out where they live and start a fire of mine

Screaming won't help them as the flames grow higher
All the people they've hurt dancing around the fire
We'll be drinking their whisky and drinking their wine
Boarding up the door with them inside

After all the ashes fall and embers fade
Going to rebuild this place in our own way
Neighbors now friends this is our damn place
Friends now family this is our damn place

Our kids will tell the story when they're hairs turned gray
Of when their families stopped asking if they'll have their day
If you're sick and tired of the rich man's lies
Burn it all down with them inside

For future generations to have their say
In what this world means and what's at stake
Break a rich man's leg to get his boot off your face
Never to let it get back that way

Never to let it get back that way
Never to let it get back that way
Never to let it get back that way
Never to let it get back that way
