Cherry Blossom (A Sestina)

I say goodbye and then try just to breathe
My heart holds heaviness not harmony
Oh how life can so quickly disappear
Washed away with rapids of salt water
I know that I am not, but I feel alone
Without the light, nothing will blossom

It amazes me though what does blossom
Here in grief where it's so hard to breathe
Kindness is full and no one is alone
Bonded by our pain we find harmony
That soothes, like sitting by clear still water
But the hurt, still, it does not disappear

The hurt will probably never disappear
What else I wonder will not blossom
Fading, wilting when there is no water
The tempo of my heart reminds me to breathe
Deep, and listen for the harmony
Or sing it, leave no melody alone

Leave no melody, don't leave me alone
Now I fear everything could disappear
A sudden empty muted harmony
Loved and so quickly gone, cherry blossom
I give myself permission to breathe
And cover this stained face in cold water

There's something healing in the water
I've spent a lot of time by it alone
I go to it when I need help to breathe
And all my worries briefly disappear
From cracks in concrete I have seen things blossom
One note changes discord to harmony

From fear and dissonance to harmony
There is space to rest by quiet water
The roots of change will come to blossom
With goodness and mercy and I'm not alone
Aching and darkness don't disappear
But the light of dawn will once again breathe

Like harmony we'll never stand alone
While water flows all life won't disappear
Oh that peace would blossom every time we breathe
