Memories of Christmas

I still walk through photo albums of when I was ten years old
'Til I'm transported back to your house when it was cold
I still see the silver fir and the spectrum of it's light
As we play in the back room I can smell our dinner tonight
We kept adding chairs and hoping we wouldn't run out of room
Filling up our paper china no way we'd run out of food
I can still relive the joy of all being under one roof
The laughter flowed like river water and we wished it back soon

Of all the things I loved the most the carols gifts hot chocolate toasts
Of all the things under the tree none more prized than family
I'm glad I didn't take tonight for granted
Cause I don't want to live with unspoken goodbyes
I promise that I'll cherish every second of Christmas with you

Sharing rooms with distant cousins making forts out in the yard
Staying up 'til past our bedtime waking early racing cars
I can still hear the crunch of the leaves I'm stepping on
As I catch the winning touchdown in the football games we won

But of all the things I loved the most the carols gifts hot chocolate toasts
Of all the things under the tree none more prized than family
I'm glad I didn't take tonight for granted
Cause I don't want to live with unspoken goodbyes
I promise that I'll cherish every second of Christmas with you

We keep growing up and getting old the distance in between us shows
The way we laugh when we reunite is the product of a well-lived life
And though we do not gather in that house anymore together
I can still feel the legacy and prayers that have been answered

But of all the things I loved the most your smile laugh and way you spoke
And of all the things under the tree you were always good to me
But the gifts don't mean a thing when compared to what we see
The faith you lived and breathed I saw what you believe
Oh how I wish you could've stayed
So I'll hold onto the memories of Christmas with you
