reset (hope for a new day)

Having ideas and scrawling them into a journal
Or into my notes on my phone
Sometimes, I think it's useful to do songwriting as an exercise
Like, without a goal in mind, you know?
Like you just set off walking with no destination

No sound when I enter the space
Roam 'round as the city decays
Tore down what was built in a day
In a year, in a generation, in an age
South Ferry putting ink to the page
The only thing I sensed that I felt, it was pain
Blunt knives in the wake of a different domain
Sky a yellowish grey, floor still wet from the rain
Graduation day, they can't tell me nothing
Every other day, they can't tell he bluffing
He'll recover, hell we covet
Evеrywhere I look, they tryna sеll me something
Publicity stuntin' so they sales don't plummet
Knocked the wind out of mine, chickens be clucking
They come home to roost, I'm considering running
'Til my sneakers are scuffed and I'm sick to my stomach
If I didn't have music, it'd be a blur
Wish that I could reimburse all the fees incurred
Light at the end hard to peep at first
But I saw what was afoot, tried to breach the birth
Were you on the frontlines when the beaches burned?
Hard to be candid with you when it seems rehearsed
Tough times, couldn't reach me if you need a verse
Couldn't find the words, had to really search
Zipped lips, sinked ships why I keep it terse
What you doing if you spring a leak and your secrets learned?
Self-saboteur, I could be the little bird
Can't stop hearing chirps so the sleep is curbed
Eyes sag like a dream deferred
Crows circling the block, I was feeling cursed
Scarlet on my neck not a charm, but you can see it works
All this pressure on me, tryin' not to pinch a nerve
Monkey on my back like sciatica throbbing
Chasing waterfalls, making a Niagara stop
On the road that I'm on, can't abandon the call
Law of averages, am I surpassing the bar?
Am I lacking the heart? Jack of trades tryna master 'em all
Could the dealer tell me if that's in the cards?
On the road that I'm on, can't abandon the call
But I'm always pulled back to the start
