What You Can't See

It's all in what you're looking at
If you're looking at ugly things
You'll feel ugly inside
If you stare at sex too long you feed your desire
Where it can't be satiated ever by anyone

If you look at patients in a hospital
Trying each day to fix the wrongs
Working hard to get better
And you hear them ring that bell
And enter the free world again
Life is beautiful, startlingly hard but beautiful
Nonetheless

If you look at people in need too long
Without trying to help
You become impoverished in your heart
If you see only the wrong in government
You feel like a prisoner
There's good there too, you need to see it

If you look at the wonder of creation you'll see God
In here, it's just too complex and huge to deny
If you stare death in the face every day
It takes your joy away

It's hard to look at the right things
When your kids don't have food
Always in a bad mood
When the threat of abuse is real
When you got to make a deal
It's all in what you can't see
When it's taken from you from me
By another or ourselves
It's hard to see the beautiful things
Even if they're right before your eyes
