The Field

The crows circled the field at dusk
Eyeing spoils from a battle lost
Three hundred souls laid low
Now their bones and dreams the soil will sow
As the years passed by, the field regrew
Their memory swept with the winds that blew

Oh the hurt
Swallowed by the dirt
The field will rise again
Such a twisted plan

The town renewed in the valley below
A long-fought peace began to show
But the wounds of that old war remained
So the hope of change was not sustained

Oh the hurt
Swallowed by the dirt
The field will rise again
Such a twisted plan

So the sons bore arms like their fathers before
To the field they marched once more
