But what's it really for?

Billion dollar deals
Cushy union contracts
Pensions
Payoffs
Rounds of champagne
Earmarks and bailouts and
Legions of lobbyists
Calling in donations for the next campaign

Government, he said, is like fire!
A dangerous servant and a fearful master

Politicians say their programs make things better
But every time they pass one, we're worse off than before
Budgets get bigger
Red tape more tangled
And all they ever want is more and more and more

They say it's for your freedom as they pass new regulations
They say it's for your welfare, then tax at every turn
They tax you when you're working
When you're driving
When you're buying
When you're living
When you're dying
They tax until you burn

They say great harm will come if you stand in their way
They say they'll have to lay off policemen and firemen
And close down schools and let bridges decay

But what about those cushy contracts?

And bailouts?
They're not going to say
They'll yell and scream and shout that you must
Give them your money, or they'll
Threaten to take the things you need away
