Memories

Silver painted faces awake
Yet another pale reflection
Coming from inside your head
Another great mystery

Faded memories of faces
Looked the other way
As they grew silver from
The age of unimportance

Then dusted on your page
With ink more final than
Their grand occasion
They could not explain
What was the thing that they yearned
Fonder than their promises

The path I walk will take me home
In all my sureties, it's this I know
I'll need all the strength I have to let go
And close my eyes to walk this path alone

What was it about those faces
That you hoped
Would eventually leave and not return?
Were you reminded with what you gave to be
The pinnacle of you, you wished to see

Purpose leads you through the dark
Once you take those steps
You set yourself on a journey to the end
While most are gone, life lifts you towards
The faces that belong outside your head
All colors left

The path I walk will take me home
In all my sureties, it's this I know
I'll need all the strength I have to let go
And close my eyes to walk this path with hope
