Coffee Shop

Well I was feeling out of tune
Seeking professional help
Compressors and distressors
Reverb and some more cowbell
When I took a little break
And heard your voice
For the first time
On the CBC
I guess I've been living
Under a rock now
At the bottom of
A very distant sea

And you were purring
Like an angel
So fearless and so proud
Your scars are the honey honey
That sweetens up the crowd
I just had to know your story
And so I wiki'ed up some facts
Now my heart feels
Like it's bleeding
As I lay down
And listen to your tracks

Oh sweet Kathleen I wonder
Why did you go
And start a coffeeshop
In old Ontario
Just waiting for the muse
To move you
And drag you out the door
There's always more to squeeze And when the demons leave
I'm sure you'll find
The girl you were before

So I was feeling out of sorts
Sadness was leaking
From my eyes
As you sang about
Your sweet dog
And the tree now where he lies
Because I too have lost
So many creatures
Who became my best friends
Every day I am reminded
Of the beauty
And the love that never ends

And the feelings fly
Like cannonballs
Metaphors glow
Like ghosts in empty halls
With traces of your soul
That you have left behind
Not too afraid to fall or fail
Or even cross the line

And so your road now
Keeps on winding
Down that new familiar path
May the signs and omens
Guide you
As you brace for the joyful crash
Because this rodeo ain't for Quitters honey
And you are proof of that
Sometimes we just go missing
Before we can make it back
And when I close my eyes
And listen
Well your voice is proof of that

Oh sweet Kathleen I wonder
Why did you go
And build a coffeeshop
In old Ontario
Well I know that
You don't know me
And I guess it's time to go
Well I am just a man
Who's heart you moved
And I thought that
You should know

Oh sweet Kathleen I wonder
Why did you go
And sell your coffeeshop
In old Ontario
The music of your heart
Has been preserved
For all eternity
With birds now on your feeder
And warm dogs in your bed
May the light of spring rain Down upon you
May your summers never end
