Desert Walk

DESERT WALK
As I walk alone the suns slows me the shadows show me
The hurt that can't be wrong, the pain inside me how it guides me
Away from you - every step I take is true
The steps help me walk away these lonesome blues

Too much love at once hurts the longest and strains the strongest
I let my love be had by a pretty stranger she held no danger
Til the sin did rise and I missed those hazel eyes
I'm walking now to chase away these lonesome blues

Now I wished I'd listened to my mama
She said son make sure you take a wife that's true
But I got bright eyes in the middle of a barroom pretty
Now I wish I could ask my mama what to do

I still keep walking on
Lord I'm thirsty, my clothes are filthy
The desert stretches on
My mind is empty, my boots are dusty but the pain is still here
In my chest and now I fear
I'll meet my maker to shake away these lonesome blues
