Conspiracy

She knows deep down in her heart
She don't need much to get started
They're feeding us lies, they're messing with our lives
Her friends are not what they seem
Russian bots that she thinks
Live down the street, will rise when it is time

She hears the voices on the radio
Narrating the carnage blow by blow
She sees the faces of the men who know
She believes their anger, she can feel it inside her

She shamelessly thinks that
We aren't quite about the things we put down in our laws
That it is with a wink we say stuff like justice for all
And she conspires to undo the rules that bind us to those who might not be like us
For it's when you keep it in the family that democracy's the safest

She says they want us replaced
And on her truck she displays
A flag that says don't tread on me, she fights
There ain't no life that don't matter
We're pitched against one another
By those who would rather be righteous than right

Confused and mad she couldn't help but slip
And she believed any crap that came out of their lips
The things they do in a DC basement
No less incredible than ruled by a black man

She shamelessly thinks that
We aren't quite about the things we put down in our laws
That it is with a wink we say stuff like justice for all
And she conspires to undo the rules that bind us to those who might not be like us
For it's when you keep it in the family that democracy's the safest

It was only yesterday
We sat together at the ball game
And we sang, and we sang Oh, Say
As if we were one, one and the same, one and the same

And I might think she's gone mad
But I'm the one, where she's at
Who's lost our ways, who's throwing it all away
I'm mocking her and her lot
Writing them off as idiots
But as a nation, let's say, how do we live another day?
