October

My back tire is making weird sounds
And it feels like it could break down any time in this city
Looking both ways making sure not hit something
Walking by is a skirt that's irresistibly blurry
The harvest moon is lighting the clouds
They've no patter they're moving so silent and steady
They'll be in the Midwest tomorrow to conquest
Another rain coat giving in to its duty

I couldn't help but notice the way
You lost your breath when you were meeting new people
Or how you raised your fists to the skies
And lowered your eyes when you were cursing your heroes
You said belief was rising again
And bearing the scars of talking in circles
But if you rise again you said
You'd take your life just to give it a purpose

In sunflower fields
Found golden heads bowed down to a clouded sky
And over on by where the tree fell last winter
There's a penitent sinner giving a prayer a try
It's hard to explain when you do it again
Exactly why you expect something different
Evening arrives full of wine and a kiss
The full moon frowns and it's incredibly distant
