Bad Taste

Is this in bad taste?
Only if you like it
That's what defines it
In your little world

You were on the bottom
So everything you like must be there too
You began anew, you left behind the things you loved

To force yourself off ground
Few and fewer friends around
Towards your exclusionary realm
Staring skyward at the helm of your lone flight simulator

But corrupted satisfaction
Spun from artificial clouds
It wasn't close to what it felt like when you
Finally let yourself touch ground

And you're so much better off now with your bad taste
Don't listen to the snobs trying to justify their place
If you're missing out because you're too damn judgmental
That's fundamentally bad taste

We all have to worry a bit about bad taste
It's classist ruins still support us now
We climb them to get our polished face
But once you get there, stop, before it's too late
to find your way back down

And you're so much better off now with your bad taste
Don't listen to the snobs trying to justify their place
Once you make it big it's on you
To break the cycle, to live in denial of bad taste

The world's so much better off now without bad taste
A dying breed of snobs trying to justify their place
From now on you'll trust in what you find transcendental
That's fundamentally good taste
