The Sparrow and the Swallow

The sparrow saw the swallow first a breezy day in May
His bird heart burst with feeling, he loved her straight away.
Each and every sunset they would meet up in a tree,
She would sing him stories of the places she had been.

She'd journeys over starry seas, it seemed she knew no bounds.
He listened while he pecked about for tidbits on the ground.
She asked if he might join her in the autumn, when she flew?
Sounded like she meant it, but in his heart he knew...

Don't love me, I'm only here for the summertime
Don't love me, I'm only here for the summertime
Don't love me, I'm only here for the summertime

The winter nights were cold and long, the days were grey and slow.
Sometimes he held onto hope, sometimes he let it go.
But just after the daffodils had died back in the spring,
Way up in the blue sky, he caught her on the wing,
She took his fragile heart so far so high
so far, so high

Don't love me, I'm only here for the summertime
Don't love me, I'm only here for the summertime
Don't love me, I'm only here for the summertime

The sparrow's life was simple, he didn't have a plan
The swallow so adventurous, she hardly dared to land,
They say that if you love something you ought to set it free,
But if it always flies away, is it still meant to be?

Don't love me, I'm only here for the summertime
Don't love me, I'm only here for the summertime
Don't love me, I'm only here for the summertime.
