Frozen Lassitude

A surge in emotions rebels against
The daily numbness
Brings an untenable longing
From the opposite direction

As if my mind could smell
The damp cold air of the early morning
Primordial day
In a life that's now a dream

Once alive, now frozen
No more heat to melt the ice
Crystallised emotions bound and paralysed
Words remain unspoken

The vastness of the icy barren landscapes
That stretch all around
Any journey begins
With the first step

Should I awake from lethargic sleep
To set wheels in motion
On a land with no compass or map

Where the last of the wild
Where the last of the wild were lost
Once alive, now frozen

Shuddering in the cold, stirred into consciousness
In a void of unfathomable meaning
A groundless field
Where peril itself has lost appeal

Gentle was the sleep of oblivion
The anaesthesia of any dissent
Nothing to lament
In the sombre place of rest

Should I awake from lethargic sleep
To set wheels in motion
In a land with no compass or map

Where the last of the wild
Where the last of the wild were lost
Once alive, now frozen
