Farm Dolls

Bring to me a laughing dolt
To hang on a pegboard hook
Try me on dominoes
In the garage as it rains

Your maze of deposits has left no lump sum
As the tidepools surrender to June
And though these lazy conundrums have confounded some
They to me are estranged and jejune

Bring to me a crossbow bolt
To aim at a dotard's foot
Leave me on a marsh remote
To raise up a kingdom of soot

Your phase of depression has made all the good
Swarms of lepers like ostriches hide
And though you have spoken I foresee your mood
Writhing like untangling twine

Bring to me a swamp-locked boat
To christen as wayfarers stand
Sing to me a forgotten ode
From the vault of some plunderer's van

Your aimless distraction has scorched many lands
Whose fields might have fostered great things
And though I'm within you I can't see your plan
Just a reliquary devoid of dreams

Near the bay by Annapolis
The brick houses fear the last call
Here to stay, in every one of us
The elements of our own fall
