The Picture I Paint

Well, you cut with a knife and gets pretty close
To the truth of my life and it's a heavy dose
I don't expect you to fashion any blade for me
'Cause I still don't understand everything I see

So you hide all your words with a poisonous quip
Because the cracks are bleeding out on your upper lip
And I don't expect you to save a kiss for me
Now I understand, it wasn't meant to be

You're like a lion with no place to roar
Never really knowing what you have in store
Come on already, it's become a bore
And I think you know me better than you did before

Well, every text comes through like a fantasy
Thoughtful words that reflect like poetry
But poems are just words that connect each thought
And I bet you're feeling foolish 'cause babe, you've been caught

I'm gonna call it the end 'cause I'm getting brave
I have this corner of the world I have to save
And if you think I'm rising up like a pompous saint
You best believe it, babe, that's the picture I paint

The devil's at my door and he's a scary fate
And heaven opens up for me to pass through the gate
But faith is a struggle and I swear it's true
Whatever we believe, honey, I'll always love you
