The Land of Plenty
This is the Land of Plenty, at least that's what I'm told
I left my pike in Wexford, in '98 so bold
A hope to live in freedom from the crown
Where they've made some declarations and wear they're flag so proud
Oh high and low, still searching for that place
Where freedom is for any, no name or coin shall take
I worked my hands will bleeding and kept my head down low
I made my wages squarely but still I needed more
At least I'm free to speak and take a stand
But some words are much louder when from a richer man
Oh high and low, still searching for that place
Where freedom is for any, no name or coin shall take
The natives of this country say no one can own the land
It's shared by all the creatures, respect it does demand
The state requires landowners have the say
Well a different name for country, the same encumbered way
Oh high and low, still searching for that place
Where freedom is for any, no name or coin shall take
I listed in the navy to fight in 1812
Aboard a brig the Lawrence, we chased the British out
The wind ran low, we let loose the corronade
And they won't forget Lake Erie, nor I beneath the waves
Oh high and low, still searching for that place
Where freedom is for any, don't let me die in vein
This is the land of plenty, with enough to go around
With every stepping forward is over bloodied ground
In this new world there's change at every turn
If someone would just stand there and force it till we learn
I left my pike in Wexford, in '98 so bold
A hope to live in freedom from the crown
Where they've made some declarations and wear they're flag so proud
Oh high and low, still searching for that place
Where freedom is for any, no name or coin shall take
I worked my hands will bleeding and kept my head down low
I made my wages squarely but still I needed more
At least I'm free to speak and take a stand
But some words are much louder when from a richer man
