Country Boy at Heart

I was born in Birmingham, Birmingham UK
But always felt I should have been Born in the US of A
So at 18 I packed my bags
Boarded a plane, guitar in hand
Landed on the east coast
Then headed south on a greyhound bus
On my journey I wrote me some songs
Got the passengers to sing along
Ended in Tennessee. Nashville, the place for me
Bought me a hat, some cowboy boots
Then hot shrimp and grits, no substitute
Not been in this bar long
Got the audience to sing along

I'm a country boy at heart
I'm just a country boy at heart

Realized soon I was just a fake
Hadn't really lived the cowboy way
Couldn't ride a horse, drink whiskey and rye
Hadn't lost my wife, and my dog hadn't died
So I signed up to a cattle drive
Learned to ride and drink whiskey and rye
Sat round the fire as the stars shone
Singing my song all night long

I'm a country boy at heart
I'm just a country boy at heart

Well I woke up one morning, my girl had gone
And she took my dog
I reach rock bottom drinking whisky from the bottle
I was the underdog
But I picked my self up, brushed my self down
Finished my song played it round town
It's in the country charts now
Number one, so sing along

I'm a country boy at heart. Yeah
I'm just a country boy at heart
You all join in

I'm a country boy at heart. Yeah
I'm just a country boy at heart

And that's my song
