Going the Distance I
Never had the ambition to become a Champion
Basking in the bell clanging
Fans chanting ambiance
Just be able to handle them and handle him
Anger couldn't channel it
Defenceless like a mannequin
Scared of what was happening
Thinking if I flipped and Sugar Ray'd
They'd stay straight face
Laugh
Or just look away
Unaffected, like when you in a dream
These fears instilled in me
Cos at home, it was hard to feel at ease
Yea I grew up, raised by a screw up
Stepdad who knew love
But was also heavy with them hands
He would get mad and snap for no reason
Poke, choke or slap
Projections of a broken man
Red like Cola can
And embarrassed when
He would flip out in front of my mates and family friends
And as an early teen
Few so called mates purposely hurting me
Disturbing scenes
Strawberry milkshake swirled over my Burberry
Memory a Blur
But it all started in Filton College
Signed since youth
Now supposed to fulfil my promise
But honest. I was slipping off it
Since it kicked off in Manny lads
Got dropped and them pricks weren't honest
My teammates
I took the rap
So had to spit and polish
Their boots, this the truth
Nah it's not a different topic
Led me to unearth skills in Boxing
Got introduced to Dennis & the legend Jim Hill
Gosh he was filled filled with knowledge
By my guy Jase, pumping them cassette tapes
Escorted to the gym in the blue Escort
Dipset AY
Straight away, like a duck in the water
Ducking and rucking in order
Comfortable chucking my mortar
Exploding onto the scene, 5 in 5
All stoppages
On my Rocky shit, climbing them steps
No stopping him
But what's a story without problems, shit
This no Disney fairytale, can't you tell
Ain't that obvious
Back then Jim'll be
Just box them and move
Plans fast went out the window
Boxed like Rocky in two & one
I would slug, but trust rocking them oh
Then lots of them viewed
Confident dude
Prob not gunna lose
Ready prepped on fight night
But fighters got pulled
Out by their coaches
So slowly got stopped in my groove
Stressed, became lazy, not in the mood
Weight ballooned, heavy on the scales
Not lots I can chew
Like Mike I lost the love for it
And if you in love with it
Best believe it's easy to be focused
Keep that hunger kid
I was wondering, la la la with no motive
Hopeless & slow motion
Up and down like them rollercoasters
Own worst Nemesis
Stuck in the loop the loop
Weekends I'd choose the booze
So inside knew the truth
If I didn't drop them I'd take a loss on points
But now only boxed once a year
Blunted spear, not a lot of point
Basking in the bell clanging
Fans chanting ambiance
Just be able to handle them and handle him
Anger couldn't channel it
Defenceless like a mannequin
Scared of what was happening
Thinking if I flipped and Sugar Ray'd
