Empathy

The world around is so full of pain
If you let it get to you it can mess with your brain
I keep on slippin' down that rabbit hole
Ain't gonna lie, can't deny--I feel it takin' its toll

There's a whole lotta good in the world
And I've done what I could to try to ride that wave
But we can't just ignore all the war and the sick and the poor
That we ain't doin' nearly enough to save

I can feel the pain--it's everywhere
I know you feel it too
We need empathy
If we're gonna make it through

If you are troubled I could lend you some help
Or I could look down my nose and say, "You brought it on yourself"
It's so much easier to keep up my guard
Ain't gonna lie, not my style--I just can't be that hard

But we can't build a wall 'tween us all
Or for sure we will fall into a deep abyss
You can be all alone on your own let your heart turn to stone
But you're just adding to all the loneliness
