Growing My Hair Out

Barely recognise my face each morning when I dress
And one day by the grace of God, I'll recognise it less
Until then I'll dilly dally
Down in the uncanny valley
Where horrified is halfway to impressed

The last bedraggled dinosaurs aspired to birds of prey
Wishing they were what they were, or what they'd be one day
I was handsome long ago
It was warm, but not my home
And now I've left it half a world away

Growing my hair out
Growing my hair out
Growing my hair out

My cut goes from a tonsure to a mullet as I grow it
Goes haywire round my hairline if the slightest wind can blow it
Girls can have male pattern baldness
Is what they say, I'm sure they're honest
But they've never had to feel that, only know it

Growing my hair out
Growing my hair out
Growing my hair out

Dunno who lets me leave the house, but somehow I make it happen
To turn up at the pharmacy with another season's ration
Plus lipstick, tights and an alice band
The cashier spots my trembling hand
He says, is there a problem, sir? I say don't worry about it ma'am
I'm just growing my hair out
