Eons

You died so long ago
It's been eons since I saw you
I didn't know how long I'd be
Away
Did you look up at the sky
Did you see me
Did you hear my bitter cries
As I called your name

If only I could go back out
Rewind my time there
I'd trade those wondrous things
For one more day
I think of jokes in tongues now dead
I think of jokes that you would laugh at
I stand outside a city bright
It's light it burns

I walk through the city
Where I once lived
People running Lights are flashing
Roads move stumble trip and tumble
I look for landmarks
Anything familiar
Nighttime daytime bright time jumble
Never stopping neon jungle
I try to ask for help
No one understands me
Thoughts are flashing lights are blinding
Babbled yelling world is spinning
Nowhere to stay
Nowhere to go
I must leave
Back to the deep
Home is nowhere
Space is home

It's clear that I don't belong here
Anymore
And so I return to the deep
No one is left to miss me when I'm gone
And after all there infinite space to explore

Why did I run when I had all that I could ever want
In a flash of reckless abandon I threw it all away
I only earned the right to see it all from the other side
So I will exercise that right and fly away fly away fly away

It is peaceful out here
Out away from it all
I would stay here a while
I need never fall
But I feel the allure
Of the movements below
So I say my goodbyes
To the empty hello

You died so long ago
It's been eons since I saw you
I didn't know how long I'd be
Away this time
I remember your blue skies
Grass. Green with dew
Did you hear my bitter cries
As I called your name
