The Promise of the Night

I know this body wasn't meant to last
But I'm holding on and it's fading fast
It never seems like it should come to an end
But I ask myself
if not now, then when

And I've danced so many times before
You'd think I'd know the steps
If not the score
But every jump I leave a piece behind
And I can't tell what's yours
Or mine

But still I have to move on
You'll never know that I've gone

And so I trust in the promise of the night
Head first into starless twilight

I don't regard you as an enemy
But there's room for one
And it must be me
In the end, I hope you understand
What one would do to live again

I know you're angry
But just know I'm sad
Oh how it hurts to take
All you ever had

You lived a life I'm just passing through
And every body's different
But I'll break this one too

And then I'll fly away
And leave this shell to the cold light of day

I don't know what I'll be
I don't know what's left of me

And so I trust in the promise of the night
Head first into starless twilight
