Loud
I was born from a raincloud
In the mid-afternoon of a Johannesburg haze
When Air had swallowed all the heat and sweat
From the forehead of every runner along the Sandton hills
From all the thrumming fields and it's trees
When the city had thinned and dried of all it's grit
Mother commanded Air to relieve them of their fast
And a thick mass of cloud darkened the sky
Ground and wood sat brooding in anticipation
Quiet
Still
All waits for Mother
Then a clap like glass shattering over the Earth cuts across
And rain bleeds out, spilling it's temperament onto homes and down streets
The storm's roar pierces above the city
Cloud screams as it's rings bounce between buildings
In a final shriek the thunder stops
And in the daisy patch of my mother's garden, I cry in need
So forgive me
When I am so excited I can't control my singing
I'm merely happy
So forgive me
When I sense danger and I cry out for the sake of protection
I'm just clawing onto safety
So forgive me
When things become manic and I bellow out
I'm fighting for control
However
I shall not dim
Nor dull
Mother birthed me in Air's purple winds
And I feel the energy it shoots through my blood
Before I may have bent to what they asked of me
But now I soar with the force that Ocean gifted me
They label me hysterical, say I shriek
Prefer me soft and somewhat meek
Instruct I move lightly and without force
The obedient type whose not so coarse
Demand less and smile more
What else are pretty faces for?
So I sit and I wait
On the next call I'm yet to make
I breathe in air, wind, night and day
To blow the non-believers away
In the mid-afternoon of a Johannesburg haze
When Air had swallowed all the heat and sweat
From the forehead of every runner along the Sandton hills
From all the thrumming fields and it's trees
When the city had thinned and dried of all it's grit
Mother commanded Air to relieve them of their fast
And a thick mass of cloud darkened the sky
