She was married on a Monday and by Tuesday it was done

And Thursday morning's paper had a picture and a name
By the early light of Friday she was trying to shake the fame
And Saturday and Sunday went and came
As a snake does shed its skin to start again
And now she's waiting on a claim

Now she lives by ultimatums and an iron-fisted gaze
Offers broken promises and a hundred different ways
To deny that those words were ever spoken
And she loved me like a parasite and I was such a gracious host

And in the town where she stumbles I'm just a ghost
Bound by the least of expectations that weigh the most
And now she's standing on a claim
And now she's takin' another name
Like the swipe of the dullest knife could take a life
And the list of her known accomplices has grown
To the point where my eyes ache from reading

With a smile of sanctimony and a resolve beyond reproach
The queen bee offers honey and then denies them on approach

I don't allow myself to wonder why she'd return to the same trough
As she did so many times, and without end
And who the hell said living well's the best revenge
And now she's cashing in a claim
And now she's taken another name
Turns on those lights
And forgot about
All those nights
