Darklight

When you're caught up in the dark
And you can't find a single spark
To light your way into another day
And you close your eyes again and turn away
Light will still be bouncing off your face
Race away from you at constant pace

A beam of light
Billions of years it's been in flight
On and on and on from distant stars
Reaching you exactly where you are
Touches your cold black heart
And you think that light is done, absorbed by dark
Its waves will warm your cockles even so
Or leak back out as phosphorescent glow

You'll never cramp a star
Hitch your wagon to it, you'll go far
Sunshine pouring down onto the earth
Earth shines out across the universe
Scatters to make the sky
Abyss of space is hidden from your eyes

A beam of light
Refracting through the raindrops, what a sight
On and on and on and near and far
Sparkle of the ocean and the stars
Touches your cold black heart
When you thought that light was done, absorbed by dark
Its waves will warm your cockles even so
Or leak back out as phosphorescent glow
