I Refuse

Phantom voices in my head
Whispered lies, disguised too well
"You have no worth, don't waste your time"
Distorted logic makes it hard to tell

But I know that it can't be true
Those voices only ever lead to pain

So I refuse
To give into the lies I tell
And the thoughts they plant
That would lead me to Hell
I refuse to follow them
Down the beaten path
So many have wandered down
Hoping they would find some kind of crown
But instead were met by
Fear and loss
I refuse

Unforgiveness creeping in
Insecurities demanding perfection
Relentless standards placed on everyone
Trying so desperately to prove my worth

But I know where my worth comes from
I won't give into the
Lie that it's a competition

So I refuse
To give into the lies I tell
And the thoughts they plant
That would lead me to Hell
I refuse to follow them
Down the beaten path
So many have wandered down
Hoping they would find some kind of crown

Fear and loss

There's a truth I've heard before
All I have to do is
Calm my mind and let it in
Not try to control every moment
Give up the lie they fed that
It is in my hands
