The People In the Town (feat. Eddie Mujica & Neal Dandade)
Oh, hey man.
Hey man, what's that book?
Charmed, Prince Charming's memoir
Prince Charming?
Well, it was the only one available
When are they going to start writing about
Normal people like us
You know, you, me
And the other people in the town?
A story about you, me, and some of
The other people in the town?
I mean, it's a big town
There's a lot of us
This one goes out to all the townspeople
Who don't get the glory
Don't you let them bring you down, people
We'll get in the story
I run a little bakery
My bread is pretty good
But I never build with gingerbread
And leave it in the woods
Even Old King Cole has told me
That he likes the things I cook
But making bagels and focaccia
Hasn't got me in a book
I'm the farmer of this kingdom
And I know just what you mean
I'm growing plants with my green thumb
And not because they're magic beans
I thought they'd write about me
When a dragon squished my crop
But my snap pea plants were flattened
And my story got the chop
No one ever puts us in the story
I guess they think we're both a little boring
But don't sleep on
The people in the town
Don't sleep on the people, the people
Don't sleep on the people in the town
Don't sleep on the people, the people
Don't sleep on the people in the town
Maybe we'll get in the story
If we're working as a team
We could start a farmers' market
Maybe that would cause a scene
It might get the queen's attention
If we do a daring deed
You mean harvesting my crops
While I'm riding on a steed?
Seems like all of our ideas so far
Are mostly about food
Do you think that we should villainize
And get a little rude?
Get our pitchforks and our torches
And become an angry mob
Or instead we'll be Prince Charmings
And become the town heartthrobs
No one ever puts us in the story
But we would like to join the repertory
So don't sleep on
The people in the town
Don't sleep on the people, the people
Don't sleep on the people in the town
Don't sleep on the people, the people
Don't sleep on the people in the town
Oh, I dream of the day
I get to hear someone say,
"We need another point of view,
So townspeople, let's hear from you."
It's time for us to tell the whole story
(What's the story?)
'Cuz no one ever puts us in the story
But we can write our own, so don't you worry
No, don't sleep on the people in the town
Who says a protagonist has to wear a crown?
Don't sleep on the people in the town
Our stories would have adjectives and verbs and even nouns
Don't sleep on the people in the town
We can lift you up, even while we break it down
We can lift you up, even while we break it down
This one goes out to all the townspeople
Who don't get the glory
Now that we have the dedication
Do you want to keep writing the rest?
Mmm, let's see if Aesop's available
