Skeleton

My little skeleton

I put the skeleton from my closet into the wash
But I kept the water too hot and it shrank to the size of a watch
I tucked him into one of my pockets and now I can't recall
Which pants I've left him in but maybe I'll find him next fall

Little skeleton I'm so sorry
I promise I'll find you someday
Little skeleton I'm so sorry
It'll all be okay
I just wanted to keep you safe

Fall comes, I sit on my porch watching the rain
It strips the leaves right off of the trees and into the street
I let the smoke fill up my lungs and I try to forget the pain
Of losing my little skeleton friend
I've only got myself to blame
But I just want
My little skeleton friend
My little skeleton friend

Little skeleton I'm so sorry
I promise I'll find you someday
Little skeleton I'm so sorry
It'll all be okay
I promised to keep you safe
